I watched the unrated version so it was a little more 'thriller' than the original, and it sounds like a lot of people trashing the movie were expecting it to be "new" and "revolutionary in terms of robot horror" based on... literally no prior claims from the company or movie trailer that it was going to be delivering something "extraordinary" that we hadn't seen yet. It was marketed as a fun thriller about a toy come to life. It's been done before, sure, so has everything. I didn't mind that it wasn't "oh my God I never saw THAT coming!" every two seconds with plot twists and trying to be intelligent, it kept your attention and developed the characters in the time it had very well. Just go in with the intention of enjoying a movie, for fun. It's actually really good, the jokes are slipped in easily so they balance out the absolute feeling of "wait what just happened" that I DID get the feeling of in just some of the creative ways they make you sloooooowly a little less warm toward the wonderful helped that is M3GAN as it goes on. 5/5 for me.
