Unfortunately we didn't see all the movie. Why? We had to walk out. Why? The audio was simply terrible. TERRIBLE. I am sure we would have enjoyed the movie and we have enjoyed all of Nolan's work previously. After 1 minute I was thinking "Wow this is loud" [although a sort of distorted loud] but it was an action sequence so it was maybe expected. Then in a scene where there was no "action" the strong background bassy hum was still there to actually impede the dialogue. After 10 minutes I had firmly established this was problematic and then my husband said "This audio is appalling" to verbalise what I was thinking. We gave it another 20 minutes but it was ruining the film.
Now I have obviously seen Nolan's approach to audio on his previous films and those were fine. This turned it up a few notches however and for us, it didn't work. We were apparently not the only ones to note this [from the cinema attendant] and I see it has been mentioned a lot on social media. Looks like we are now waiting for Wonder Woman 1984 for the first successful trip back to the cinema...
