I loved this movie when it was released on HBO in the 80s. loved the music and dance scenes. I did realize that some of the dialog is wooden, but you get over that with the fun of the rest of the movie.

I really dont have a problem with the show. there is some wooden dialog, and I really wish we could have seen the Wookie Jedi fight, not killed off-screen, but overall, i think much of the hate reviews are misdirected.

Thanks to a couple of free months on CBS all Access, I was able to view both Discovery and Picard. Although Discovery is visually stunning, and certainly has original storylines, there are several drawbacks: 1) they should have called it "Star Trek: Michael Burnam, because the show is about her. Everyone else is along for the ride. Almost every episode, we get some long speech from her "discovering" something about her or her family. 2) because so much time is spent on Burnam, there is little time left for other character development. There are several bridge crew officers I don't even know if we were given their names. The Dr./engineer relationship was welcome, but we know so little about the other characters. 3) so many plot holes. Such a complicated plan to "get rid of" Discovery at the end of season 2, even though there were many other easier ways. Picard was much easier to watch, probably because we were already dealing with characters that had been developed in other shows.
