Where do I begin. So I like Star Trek and so my displeasure has nothing to do with the material but rather with the game itself. I bought it on PS5 but that game and its graphics would have been at home on a PS3. The characters teeth awkwardly fit into their mouths. The face and general graphics were subpar for a PS4 or PS5 game. It was distracting. The story takes the Tkon from “The Last Outpost” from TNG. It’s as if the Star Trek universe is bereft of new ideas. This does allow Riker to make an appearance. It also uses Spock’s character with a different voice actor since the great Leonard Nimoy has passed. Why drag this character into a marginal story with poor CGI and terrible game dynamics. I think the answer is a cash grab. The game is always in story mode where characters, as in much older games, are directed to move the character using odd control layouts. Once they complete a portion of the action scene there is a cutaway to more dialogue. Sometimes the game will glitch if you go near an area you are not allowed. Fight scenes with phasers have your character behind something with limited movement and directional aim. This harkens back to very old games. The story has some potential but just is hampered by terrible game physics.
I think Star Trek deserves better and can be better. Picard’s last season did pull at our heartstrings and worked for me. This game lacks production value. It just wastes the Star Trek name on what could have introduced us to new characters and a unique mission. A mission I might add would immerse you in Star Trek allowing you to explore and learn. It should have a storyline that is not only original but written so that the player goes on a journey complimented by smooth graphics and fun tech. the subplots in this game weren’t bad but they really didn’t take me anywhere I haven’t already been. Boldly go somewhere don’t timidly revisit the Tkon!
