I say leave this movie behind. The only thing that came to an end was my patience. It was a slow burn but the tension created by the weird, yet subtle occurrences made this an enthralling story, until what should have been the end of the movie. All stories need an ending. They don't have to be wrapped in a bow, but they need an ending.
The writer's of the script were just lazy. They had the book to guide them, yet they left their audience hanging and in a most rude way. Five more minutes and something a little more would have made this movie one of the best, but it just drops stops with the start of the ending credits.
Some have said that it is all about symbolism. I have to agree. But what I saw was the laziness of people and how most just phone it in and don't ever complete anything. I saw a movie filled with cerebral symbols that truly made it more enjoyable for me, but then like most people today, the writer's just up and quit.
Some have said it is all about the symbolism of that last scene.
SPOILER: So, watching a favorite TV show is what makes life worthwhile? Catching the end of someone else's story is what makes us happy? We can all die a senseless death as long as we get to watch TV? What am I suppose to glean from the not an ending, last few minutes, that does not close the story and end the climax! There's no denouement! The pieces of the story are not explained and the parts of the characters are in no way finally explained and finalized.
We all know from watching, as the tension builds, that things are going to end badly. The world is going to end, but if this is a movie about humanity and how their behaviors, attitudes, and actions cause the end of the world, then why is their final act not portrayed?
None of that gives the writer's the right to cheat the audience and leave us at the height of the story. As part of that audience I feel betrayed and cheated. I would like the time I spent on this movie back!
