When I first heard about this game back in July and found out that Yuji Naka (creator of NiGHTS and Sonic) was making this, I was somewhat excited about this game but when I got to the demo, that’s were it unfortunately started tilting the other way. An idea of a NiGHTS successor was actually good but was poorly executed, Just the same the with failed Mega Man successor Mighty Number 9. Even if this game has some appeal, it’s still lacks the ability to do so. If Square Enix could’ve delayed the game after noticing its buggy state, I would’ve changed my mind. But this was just sad for poor Naka. Pros: - The soundtrack is beautiful (Aside the songs that literally rip-offs of Ghostbusters) - The game’s aesthetic is known to be charming - There are plenty of costumes to choose from - As I mentioned before, the concept was cool despite being poorly executed Cons: - Most of the controls were used for jumping or the actions of the costume. - Experimentation is rather limited - Costume gimmick (despite having many costumes and looking decent on paper) still felt like garbage - Some costumes ironically have the same action as other ones or can be flat out useless. - The level design is very flawed from the beginning - Performance feels very sluggish - Gameplay is known to be abysmal - The fact that you have to achieve “Excellent” in all timings for Balan Bouts just to get the statue in those QTEs is just a hassle to accomplish. 4/10 Bad Reviewed on Nintendo Switch and Xbox One (Note: This is my review of the game. The reason why I like this game is that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Other qualities include amazing detailed visuals, No microtransactions, references to it’s anime and previous games, and awesome move sets that are inspired from the Super Smash Bros, And despite being in the same audience as Arthur! Ready To Race, This game actually provides a challenge to young players unlike anything Arthur did. The only flaws I see in this game are a very short story just like Halo: Reach but without the difficulty and it can be very easy to beat. But overall, I think this was a good Kirby game for it’s time, despite having more updates in Mid and Late 2018. This would be a rent for most gamers, but it would a must buy for Kirby fans
