The New York Times is having difficulty explaining what the problem about this book is. It’s an anomalous story that does not represent the plight of the majority of Mexicans. The American publishing industry is celebrating it as if it were.

I liked it. Watched it on BBC channel with way too many commercials which was frustrating but strung out the suspense. I tuned in half way through and therefore wasn’t able to understand how Mayor Gandolfini figured out the SEC/Wall Street angle so quickly. Typical for the zeitgeist we learn far more about the motives, psychology and justifications of the Principal characters than in the original 1970s version.
