Absolutely fantastic film by Gulzar and superlative understated acting by Jitendra and assured and strong acting by Hema Malini. Farida Jalal and Sharmila Tagore also star in a short but emphatic roles- even Master Raju plays his part. All actors are superb and the direction and story telling is just spot on. You are in a different world while watching this movie.

Absolute MUST watch for all husbands and wives together. An absolutely superbly made movie showing- in great and superb visual detail- everyday lives of women and the double standards of men when it comes to anything to do with house work.
