I bought this book to learn more about the Solway before I could physically explore it. I found it very cerebral in places but then I'm not a Marine Biologist. It was the history of this once busy and industrious place that really fascinated me, with it's quarries, fishing, (in all it's guises) transportation and numerous ports which is now, for the most part, a quiet, lonely, but hauntingly beautiful place. A book full of atmosphere, well written and researched, it will provide an invaluable reference to all those places I wish to visit in the future.
