A conveniently placed weekend ensured that I was a less unwilling audience to Tanhaji-The Unsung Warrior. I was impressed to watch an Indian 3D film. Disregarding my general fascination for a cinema hall experience, the seats, sounds, darkness, the presence of the screen itself and the accompaniment of caramel popcorn...the movie was a good experience. Not looking at what history it presented and not trying to assess the magnitude of embellishments in the tale, I chose to enjoy it as a story of emotion, a tale of valour. Everyone did justice to their parts. Sheepishly loved that I could predict the Marathi dialogues, some quite historical and some not!
A few things that stuck me-the soldiers of the time would have had such a high level of physical and mental agility and extra strong senses as.compared to people of the present times...we are so dependent on technology or gadgets that perhaps these natural endowments are dispelled or dismissed. The women in the Maratha homes even then enjoyed a fairly equal role in the households as compared to many of their contemporaries...
And I loved the friendship depicted between Shivaji and Tanhaji. That was a surprise. And yes, hats off to the team and even the actor for being able to show tears in the eyes of the mighty Shivaji as he worried about and later grieved his friend...The same for showing Tanhaji as a soldier who had had an equally sensitive side as a husband and not being shy to show it...
Surprisingly, I reacted and emoted a lot to the end. Should I give credit to the emotional impact of the reactions of Shivaji and Savitribai or simply being so strongly connected to the emotion of a loss of a loved one?
Would definitely recommend this movie for a commendable experience!
Great dose of history, story telling, emotions and reasonably good effects...also makes me hungry for more and enhancements on this genre in the days to come!
