A fascinating history by the author, who has lived nearby all his life, of the lighthouse at Little Ross island and its keepers. And, of course, of the murder that took place there, in 1960. The author, writes about that with calm clarity and vivid recall and with moving sympathy for the victim and perpetrator.
I thoroughly enjoyed this very thoroughly researched book, which has deepened my understanding of the lighthouse service, the past lives of the people who lived on the Galloway coast and of the town of Kirkcudbright's life as a harbour in often dangerous waters.
