While I think some people are getting a little carried away with the trash talking, I don't love it.
My biggest grievance is that the dialog is weak, simple, and doesn't feel natural. It seems like it's for kids. But then you contrast that with scenes of murder and genocide, watching innocents being burned alive. It just feels out of sync.
Which leads into my second issue.
Fine, you changed the story around to fit in more details. Problem is, it took away so much meaning away, and the plot moves so fast that you don't get a chance to really connect with characters or really feel anything.
I guess I just think, why? Why rush/cram a perfectly good story into limited time frame when the original has been and still is available to watch? The budget and time it would take to do the original series justice just isn't there. Why not tell new stories? A show where every season tells stories from the lives of past Avatars? Stories of other benders, or even non-benders struggling (or thriving idk) in a "benders world"? Please, stop this trend of remaking watered-down versions of stories that have already been told well.
I don't know. Glad the show employed some people, and I don't discourage their efforts. I just wish their talents had been harnessed into something that didn't feel like it was piggybacking off the success of the original cartoon, because I'm sure they did what they could with what they had. It's watchable, just a bit dissapointing personally.
With all that said, I hope they finish what they started. For the people that do like this show, it's always a bummer when shows get cut early.
