I wanted so badly to love this movie. I’ve read the book twice a year since I was 10 years old, and I was thrilled to be able to introduce my husband to the little women world for the first time through this movie. My heart sunk when I heard him whisper at least 10 times “I have no idea what the heck is going on!” I dont blame him at all! Even for someone super familiar with the story I was confused. The jumping around of scenes with zero discernible difference in the characters ages was a horrible idea. I enjoyed the actors, though Laurie and Beth didn’t hit the mark for me. I thought Emma was great despite her lapse in English accent every once in a while! In the beginning I was annoyed enough to want to leave the theatre, but the movie redeemed itself as time went on and I left content, if not pleased. I understand it can be very hard to have a modern take on an old classic, especially one as loved as this, and I think this was a decent attempt. I wonder what it would be like to see a movie written and directed by someone who is a die hard fan of the books...
