This movie was a blast! Ill be watching it again. I love how the music from the games was adapted for screens, especially love the touch of the mario kart 8 build your kart BGM having a version in this movie. The pop sequences i honestly forgot about but noted it stood out to some people, but I find it fits the era/time period they were trying to convey.
The plot is very easy to digest, and a bit fast paced, but in this sense, it is very mario in the image of Miyamoto. Im happy to have gotten some background in mario amd luigi's family and profession, and some lore on peach! Those honestly had the most screentime in comparison to the rest, but neat insight to the characters.
Making a game into a movie is hard as there is no player so in a way, mario embodies the player as a "not giving up" kinda way, which is how we complete the games, its a sweet nod to the players watching and embodies Mario's character.
This movie also finally brings out the original fiery and elegant nature of princess peach (if you read the original manga and interviews of miyamoto) she is the ruler of the mushroom kingdom and can fight. (Even threatened to bomb a place at one point).
Luigi and toad? Best supportive boys. Its great to have characters that are so good spirited.
The Voice choices were honestly solid after the commercial sequence in the beginning not being the fake videogame italian, iy makes sense and sets the tone for the film! Mario and luigi are ordinary guys from our funky little world, going into another one of many galaxies. I look forward to more.
The jokes are charming and overall, a feel-good movie. I smiled the whole time.
