We Were Liars, was a relentlessly annoying book with its over dramatic and nonsensical sentence structure and over the top detail about people and places that add no meaning to the storyline. I understand it's used to create an overall picture, but I found myself quickly scanning over the sentences and still being able to create an image in my mind without all the added detail. I did not feel connected to any of the characters, I found Cady to be annoying and dramatic and the romance between her and Gat was forced and cringey. Once I reached part five "The truth" I had a sigh of relief that I was finally going to get to the end of the book and finally wrap up 230 pages of build-up. The twist is its only redeeming part of the story, it was surprising but because of my lack of connection to the characters - I hardly felt any emotion towards the ending. The ending also felt rushed especially when Cady finally remembers what happened and her conversations with her liars were cut short or not explained as well as I would assume they would be. Perhaps I'm not the target audience for this book, but if you want a more mature kind of story this is not it.
