While it is hard to deny that there are some beautiful shots, as a film based on the life of Marilyn Monroe this falls so short that it's unrecognisable to anyone that's read a book about her.
This is not a film about Marilyn Monroe. It's a nearly 3 hour ode to how powerful men see woman with "daddy issues". Beautiful and tragic and a danger to themselves in their pursuit of finding acceptance.
Of course, those of us who didn't know her can't possibly claim we have any idea what she was like, but from the most basic facts it is clear that Marilyn Monroe was someone who managed to carve an incredibly successful career for herself, despite a difficult start to life. She was let down by the many men who claimed to love her and yet thrived in spite of that.
Some clear mental health and addiction issues aside, she was a force to be reckoned with. This film just reduces her to a mere sexy picture of herself. Bit of a waste of Ana De Armas if you ask me!
