“American Schism” by Seth David Radwell could not be more timely or more needed. This is a confusing, distressing time for many Americans; it feels like the fabric of our country, of American society is tearing apart. Republicans and Democrats can no longer sit across the table from one another and enjoy a civilized meal. It’s easy to point to one reason or another — the rise of White Christian Nationalism, increasing inequality, the death of “the American Dream,” globalism, Trump’s pitting of us against them, etc. Radwell provides the historical and sociological contexts for what we’re experiencing, so that this moment in history is a more comprehensible point on an arc in time. He also proposes solutions, to help is from slipping into anarchy or civil war. Recommended.
