I am having a hard time reconciling the fact a movie that had left me an emotional wreck, I am giving five stars.
The movie is about the story of two boys who were joined-at-the-hip nearly all their lives -- Brothers in every sense of the word and shared everything, including each other's families.
All was well until they started going to High School. This is a time where teenagers start defining "self." For instance: They find out how their world feels about two boys being in love (and having to, on an ongoing basis, justify this relationship). Yes, we are talking about agape love, but it really doesn't matter -- universally, guys are expected to take on more masculine/macho roles.
Sadly -- with tragic consequences -- in one boy's quest for finding his identity, for reasons he doesn't even understand, he pushes the other boy away, unknowningly crushing that boy's identity.
The acting is superb, the music score is perfect and the storyline -- even with a different country's perspective -- is believable. This film is definitely Oscar worthy.
