This is a tome of 908 pages detailing the Tamil Dictionaries and word lists ever published. It is amazing that it was written by an Englishman, Gregory James, working at the Language Centre of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology - independent scholarship at its best. The wide array of expertise that has gone into this book is impressive. There is a small gap that seems to have managed to escape the attention of the author - that of the lexicographic texts within the various commentaries of classical literature, and those found in works of traditional arts and sciences. Otherwise, a work of love that deserves much respect.
