I saw the movie the night before the Oscars on a chance recommendation by someone who's opinion I value. On an emotional level, I laughed out loud and was in tears at the end. As a white guy who recognized my personal issues about race several years ago and who has made great progress on it, it hurt me greatly to see the discrimination portrayed as it was in the movie; I was ashamed. It hit home and I was moved. Then it won best picture tonight; that shows the importance of the message that hate can be overcome by love and acceptance. We have not seen the last of this genre as the negativity out there needs a balancing weight.
