Unsheltered is the first Kingsolver book I don't love. I recently finished Demon Copperhead - excellent, btw - and I have loved her essay collections and everything else of hers since I read Pigs In Heaven... until now. Unsheltered is tedious in places, but my main issue with the book is the political pontificating. Is this where we are now, that authors whose stories have nothing to do with Trump feel the need to get on their soap boxes and shove their political views down their readers' throats? I got slightly more than halfway through the book, but the discussion between Tig and Willa (in Nick's hospital room) clinched it. I hate abandoning a book but I'm over this one.

I read Radium Girls by Kate Moore in 2 days right after I read Glow by Megan Bryant (both excellent!), so I decided to watch the movie (supposedly) based on the sad plight of these fearless young women. So disappointed. I don't understand why the creators of this film felt the need to deviate so much from the dial painters' captivating story by bringing in the subplot of anarchists, Mt. Rushmore, etc., even showing the main character getting arrested (no record that this ever happened). Isn't the Radium Girls' story compelling enough? I think so. I regret having paid to see this movie.

Have any of you noticed how several of the so-called 5-star reviews paraphrase each other? I'm guessing those are fake or AI-GENERATED. This movie could have been great. Instead it is truly awful. I was hoping it would be campy like Cocaine Bear, but, nope, just awful. I felt no sympathy for the women because they were all too stupid to live. The first one, Christopher Robin's gf, was just beyond annoying. The script is bad, the acting is bad, the costumes are bad....skip it.
