This movie was an incredible waste of time. First of all, there will be spoilers in my fuming rant about how horrible this movie is. A husband and wife decide MUTUALLY TOGETHER to downsize (shrink their bodies and live in a tiny world) so they could simply afford life and “help the environment.” I thought this could take a dystopian direction of how people are willing to do quite literally anything for the sake of money, but no. That is NOT what happened. His loving, caring wife abandoned him right before the downsizing procedure?? I was more confused than I was shocked. There were no signs of her ever regretting the decision. In fact, multiple scenes showed the woman encouraging her husband to do this for her. Ignoring that “small” detail, I continued on with the movie. The husband having to travel all alone, live inside a gigantic house that was a constant reminder of his wife, and the emphasis on how everyone was happy except for him made me believe that THIS TIME the movie would be a dystopian story centralized around those topics. He was placed in a “perfect” world just to find out that the downsized life is nowhere near that, and he was trapped for the rest of his life suffering in his own misery. THAT was the kind of plot twist I was assuming the film would expand on. Unsurprisingly, this was not the case. He finds himself a new lover just TWELVE MONTHS after divorcing his wife of many years. Long story short, he breaks the new lady’s prosthetic leg and becomes her slave (?????), then falls in love with the her in a downsized cult-like village in Norway. The entire summary of the movie is… be eco-friendly?? but also put love over saving the world?? but also recognize your own worth?? This movie was all over the place. There were so many plot holes that I lost count. I dont even know if you could really say there is a plot, since obviously these writers can’t stick to one idea. Anyway, 1/10 movie. Dont waste your time. Youre welcome.
