The works of Tolkien are so highly regarded and well-loved. So when Amazon decided to take on this task and turn these legendary books into a show I knew they were walking on a very fine line.
I do think it is possible to make a fantastic show using these books, just as Peter Jackson did in the 'Lord of The Rings' trilogy. However, as worried, Amazon unfortunately decided to only use the works of Tolkien as a sort of guide for their show. With the addition of new characters/ romances and events that never took place in the original works. This I think was an immediate let-down for so many loyal fans, as it takes away from Tolkien's life work and will not show an accurate depiction of Tolkien's world to people who had not been introduced to it before.
Besides these initial issues, there were some aspects of the show quite enjoyed and I will praise Amazon for, such as
-The prologue battle scene.
-The cinematography of the wide landscapes and forests of Lindon.
-The referencing to the Lore of middle earth.
With these things in mind, I think if this show was not associated with Tolkien's work it would hold up at least for me, as a 'Good' show.
However, in my opinion, Amazon's production team made a few wrong decisions changing the story, setting themselves against the Middle Earth fans, and ultimately getting bad reviews.
