Some genius acting, but once you gather where the movie is going, the plot is linear and predictable with no tension. Certain lurid scenes may appeal to minority groups but on the whole the movie lacks credibility. An early encounter with a scene stealing Elspeth could have been developed at the time. The butler could have reappeared to singular effect in the tedious closing scenes. Promised much but grasped failure from the jaws of victory.
