The plot is thin to say the least. After awhile, one gets tired of watching the fawning, arrogant husband trying to build his private empire by shamelessly using his wife's connections. It was impossible to understand why the wife, who is a cultured, highly educated woman, would ever fall for this man, and become a source of ridicule among her circle of friends. Vanessa Redgrave is a terrific actress, but the director failed her, because in nearly every scene (with the exception of the few times the twosome have a violent argument), she has the same expression on her face. Some courtroom drama scenes can be intriguing and riveting, but in this movie they are bland and boring. By the time the mystery was solved, I pretty much didn't care whodunnit.
