Ignore the 5 stars, this isn't a 5 star movie but I felt it necessary to outweigh the 1000s of troll reviews that are rating a movie on who the production company is instead of how the movie was.
The movie does some things well and others not so much, some points certainly felt contrived or unnecessary, but other pieces were very well done for a first time effort. The movie is a 6/10.
Moments were hard to watch, the early 1st was slow moving but invoked a real dread for the life of a not very good single mother in a poor rural setting. The reality of former drug addictions and the desperation of putting up with abuse because of economic situations was very real. The action and tense moments were lacking and I think that was a result more of sound production and a not very well done score.
The acting was great, the dialog was well written, the cinematography and lighting were mostly interesting with some bad establishing shots. The plot writing needed another round of review but most movies do.
Comparing to most of the 10 or so thrillers released on Netflix, Prime, and Hulu every month this was better than most and not as good as the best few. It was overall a good outing for a first produced movie.
Far better than anything released by Project Greenlight so there's that. Ignore the trolls and watch it yourself
