I am a huge fan of The Little Mermaid - I was in pre school when the original was released and even had the VHS and DvDs when they came out, watching the entire movie every single day after school for several years. I was so psyched when I first learned about the live action movie and was counting down the days to its release. Alas, I was hugely disappointed when I finally saw it, and here's why.
1. The plot deviates from the original storyline by leaps and bounds - and in the worst possible way
2. The improvized dialogue was far from impressive
3. Poor cast choice - None of talents that were cast suited the role they played. My biggest disappointment was (now don't play the racist card here, I'm a minority too) Ariel. She lacked the personality (she is seriously void of charisma)and bubblines and depth of emotion expected of the character. While she has a great voice, she did a poor job in her delivery of most of the songs, especially "Part of your world" and the reprise version. Ursula was another disappointment - Melissa McCarthy tried too hard, and lacked the scary, malefic vibe the otiginal Ursula exuded
4. The biggest disappointment - THE SONGS! They sound nothing like the originals and were massively underwhelming
5. The CGI was far frm impressive
6. Sebastian, Scuttle and and Flounder were pathetic and irritating
Guys don't waste time or money going to the cinema to watch this. Just wait till it's released on Disney +. I felt so cheated - t'was a waste of my money and time. I wish I'd walked out of the theater after the first 20 minutes instead of wasting 2 hours of my life i'll never get back
