Great writing, directing, filmography and acting and all of these combine with sharp timing. The players find terror when not understanding what causes unexpected noise or light deviations. Cruel human behaviour continues to crop up mundanely; as a counterweight to the love shared by the extended family group which forms the cast. The final scene is depicted subtly and powerfully, particularly as played by Richard Jennings, whose retirement-age character is depicted as having failed materially. In this scene, he fulfills recent nightmares by literally making a tunnel of light which leads him out of darkness.
