Like Grannie said “haters gonna hate”. I liked this movie. People who are ripping on it seem to think that the original was a classic (it’s really not) or who were bothered by this sequel being a shameless attempt at corporate synergy. I agree there is a lot of the second part, I thought that the part where they collected looney tunes characters from other universes was pretty entertaining but I agree that I don’t quite understand why the night king or penguin or penny wise had to be in the audience for the game when they didn’t even really do anything.
But the movie has a good message that is relevant today: the most important thing about youth sports should be for kids to have fun. I believe participation has been declining in sports at the youth level because we have parents and coaches putting way too much pressure on these kids to win at all costs. We need to face the fact that most young athletes won’t be the next Lebron or MJ or Ronaldo and the main reason they want to play is for fun as well as encouraging a culture of lifetime fitness, meeting new friends, and learning life skills. When comparing video games vs sports, I think we see more kids choosing video games because they are more fun, they are designed to be played for fun. But we have to find ways as adults to make sports fun again for our youth. That’s what this movie was about, and I can already tell some people take life way too seriously or didn’t take the message to heart and that’s why they didnt like the film
There’s also some more mature points raised in the movie about AI and big tech surveillance but it wasn’t ultimately the focus of this kids film
