I think this is the best album of the year. It is up there with NFR and Ultraviolence, as an absolute masterpiece!
It's the first time in a LONG time, I have heard an album (especially with this many tracks) that is so consistent throughout.
I know this is a hot-take, but as much as I LOVE Born to Die and Lust for Life, some of her most popular bangers are on both, I don't think either are very telling of HER sound and story. I truly think this Chem Trails, NFR and Blue Banisters are her sound. The others I think helped her get a bit more into the mainstream by featuring a bit of hip-hop and pop and including amazing featured pop artists.
Is this a bit more melodic than those and the Paradise album? Omg 100%!
Do I love it though? YES!!!
She's 37. Been in the scene for over a decade. Has a dedicated, die-hard fan base. I love that she's using it to truly experiment with different sounds. Some of the songs are literally recordings of people speaking.
She's name dropping family members and talking about her real story!
Far different than the "Carmen" days, but it's a creative direction I love to see!
She is singing her range, writing songs about her family and from her soul.
