The 2 kids are going thru life. For the boy it's easier than the girl. They have adventures, climb mountains, and have to trust the old men who give them guidance. Then they go to heaven. This is a story rich in symbols. Shadows are from heaven. So of course they want to go there. Fish want to be eaten in order to nourish the children. Then the fish are rewarded by coming back as flying flowers.
