This book serves to reinforce bigotry in the LDS church. His solution for reconciling the anti-LGBTQ+ teachings of the LDS church was to effectively “put it on the shelf.” The purpose of this book is to teach that you can be gay AND be a “good Mormon” BUT… Now he’s dating men… So he’s just a hypocrite. I went through all the emotions and thoughts expressed in this book when I was coming to terms with my sexuality. I don’t fault him for trying to make being Mormon and gay co-exist. I just wish he would write the next chapter of this book which explains how all the advice he thought was good turned out to be rooted in harmful internalized homophobia.
