Powerfully dark and disturbing. Gripping psychological drama that is spot on in its unflinching depiction one of society's tragically and unnecessarily neglected problems, the struggle of those suffering from mental illness and the consequences of allowing those who suffer to fall through the cracks of a fractured system. Joaquin Phoenix delivers an all in performance. A film that relates the origins of the infamous Joker's madness. Realistic and convincing. And this is what makes it scarily realistic. This is not one to be missed by those who have ever wondered how the character became what he did. The film was incredibly well written and produced and all involved delivered outstanding performances. I highly recommend this one, but will state the obvious by issuing fair warning that this movie is GRIM. Will definitely watch again.

As always, Sir Kingsley is positively riveting to watch. The story tells of what for some, is a harsh, stark reality. Yes, it is a slow moving film, but if you are truly a fan of Kingsley, you will not be watching the clock, but transfixed by his performance and watching his every gesture and hanging on every line that he delivers with his typical and inimitable style. Not for everyone, but definitely for fans of Kingsley.
