Great job relying on horribly overused and harmful stereotypes of mothers and teenagers to (barely) carry your stitched together plot. I don’t understand why every teenage girl needs to be depicted as some brat who hates her mother and scorns any form of normal boundaries set by her parents. You have no idea what it’s like being a teenager and having people assume you’re a phone-addicted, rebellious brat.I also don’t understand why every mother needs to be depicted as some trapped-in-the-house woman who literally acts simultaneously high and drunk when she gets overprotective of her children or mildly upset. (Watching the scene with the gorilla toy fight was so uncomfortable. Honestly, was that necessary?? Is that what you think being a mom does to someone?).I could go on. Anyway, I feel like I’ve seen this movie a thousand times. And people wonder why negative stereotypes are perpetuated. Please, Netflix, do better.
