Wizkid creates a robust sound with Made in Lagos, a project that not only pushes Afrobeats into what feels like new territory, but crafts for him his own genre of music. The album blends old sounds not heard since the live band eras of King Sunny Ade and Fela with contemporary endeavors, as well as a mix of new wave creatives pioneering out of Nigeria and the African Diaspora at large. Songs like Essence, Blessed --and the Afro/soul/reggae masterpiece; True Love, successfully fuse multiple genres to create a sound with so many layers whilst allowing each artist to shine individually without any one sound overpowering the other, a truly incredible feat! What makes this album so great is that you've never heard the likes of it anywhere else before, not even on the continent. It's not the gbedu and Dance-away-your-sorrow Afrobeats project the world has come to expect from Nigerian Artistes... This project is more than that. It's a complete sonic work of art that we can finally submit on any stage with pride and say "Here it is, the evolution of our music". And as the title suggests, it was born out of Lagos, Nigeria.
