Nice film but don't expect it to be faithful to the novel because it isn't - I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I hadn't just read the book! Taken on its own merit it is definitely entertaining and heartwarming. Just leave a good length of time between reading the novel amd watching the film!

This is a wonderful and absorbing story with characters you really feel you know by the end. I liked Janice from the start. Very shortly afterwards I loved her. The mystery of Janice's own story is only hinted at and when we finally hear it, it is moving. I had often tears in my eyes while reading particularly in the later stages. This book is funny in parts, very amusing, but it also deals with some sad and painful realities of life. I have recommended it to friends multiple times and haven't yet found anyone who hadn't loved reading it.

Wasn't sure during the first episode but it just got better and better. Excellent drama and excellent actors. Great script and production. Definitely recommend. Another success for Julian Fellowes. (Watching having recorded it, my husband and I watched the last 3 episodes back to back! Just had to get to the end!.....Phew!)
