It's gold. It's hilarious while highlighting a serious issue, lack of funding for US schools, without beating you over the head with it. The writers here wield subtlety well, and they have finesse. You can tell this show has black writers, and I love it. Things have nuance here.
None of the characters are purely caricatures either, which could've been a potential pitfall for someone like Ava. I love the entire cast including the janitor and the adorable kiddies. I love Janine and her big heart and her slightly sheltered background. I love the cute beginnings of Gregory pining for her. I love bummy, trash Soundcloud rapper Tariq too.
Most of all, I love that the show's humor isn't mean-spirited. I leave episodes feeling lighthearted, waiting to laugh again. Quinta's always been talented, so glad she has an even bigger platform.
