Sonic has had a bumpy ride on his way into the 3D world.
You probably have heard this before.
And yet, in 2022 SEGA seems to have finally learned from their mistakes and ignored the critics just to make a game thatโs good. Who cares if the critics say they hate the large cast of characters, epic plots that take themselves super seriously, and constant gameplay style changes. People donโt really know what they want. None of those 3 things make a game bad, what made them bad were often problems with the things that had more to relate with sonic games being rushed products, and/or a mechanic just not being fleshed out enough by the devs.
Take Bigโs fishing for instance. Itโs awful in SA1, and critics say they wish Big wasnโt in the game at all. Iโve never agreed with critics. Iโve always wished Bigโs gameplay was improved and Iโm glad sonic frontiers finally did that. I hope to see it done with the rest of the characters as well in a future sonic game.
Sonic frontiers is a very good time, the boss battles are epic, the story and voice acting are the best Iโve ever seen in a sonic game, and the gameplay loop is both addictive and rewarding.
10/10 would recommend!
