Ok… so my partially formed opinion: for a tortured poet, where is the poetry? This album tortures ME.
At first I was like “soft Reputation???? With the aesthetic of light acedemia???? I was hopeful. I was wrong.
I am frankly exhausted by 31tracks. The vault releases were much more relatable to me. She should have saved them for TTPD. I made it about 12 songs in and have given up🥲 that’s much more than I would have given any other artist, because I do love Taylor’s music.
I did like So Long London tho…
At this point, it isn’t even about the money for her, but it seems like she was under a deadline. This is a feint attempt to throw her hat in the ring with a double album while on tour, while dating, while at the height of her career. It’s more like “I’m trying to go down in history” but she’s just forgotten about the art. How many more CPR references do we need to hear? She’s referenced it in prolly 10 songs. And the “down UP down UP down UP down” rhythm that use to be really cool is now like a fingerprint left on evidence linking her to a crime.
I dont necessarily hate familiarity as long as it is relatable, but that mark too has been missed.
Her lyrics are just confusing at this point. Do I need a biography of her love life just to decode any meaning from her songs? How many others spent hours googling Taylor this week? Bet she is trending everywhere, good and bad. It’s giving “algorithm” vibes. Also, her producers need to be fired… if I hear one more lame synth melody y’all will need forensic’s to find me…
She had so many opportunities to be anthropomorphic, but she seemed to purposely dehumanize herself? WHICH IS SO OFF BRAND FOR HER!!!
at this point I’m not just disappointed, I’m worried #freeTaylor
The only poetic thing about TTPD
is that this album IS evidence of a murder committed… but the victim might actually be Taylor’s career.
