I played DD1 some years back, and I thought it was a decent ARPG with great combat mechanics. In its time. Now, in 2024, DD2 (or rather, DD Remake) fails to deliver in a lot of areas. Capcom, you need to stop obsessing about achieving even higher profit margins with the minimum effort. Create a great game, and there will be great sales. Forget about micro transactions for a console game.
I shall not repeat what many others have mentioned but my biggest gripe was the fast travel thing. No fast travel = fun to run around spots? It is not interesting at all. The enemies are the same, you have to worry about losing daylight, food spoiling in your inventory, get distracted by your pawns sprouting random treasure/rift/etc dialogues and repeating the same lines of dialogue over and over again. All these are not fun elements of a RPG - these are outdoor survival simulation. Even when I make camp, all the pawns sit around together, and their eyes are just gazing into the far distant. Soulless AI.
The overview map. Initially, I thought I had issues with my eyesight, but God forbid, no. My character cursor icon is in white! And it blends into the mainly whitish map perfectly. Perfect.
The side quests were ok, but I felt that it is a HUGE pain to complete some of them, especially if you needed to venture somewhere in the map and then you got absolutely NO hints on what to do! And then when I googled for more information, more often than not, I gave up on that particular side quest when I have to run to and fro without fast travel. It’s a pain, capcom. Did you ask your customers what they want before spending a ton of resources to remake another sugared up thrash?
