I purchased the original on vinyl in the mid-1970’s. Walter Carlos’ performance is spectacular and the Moog synthesizer is capable of a seeming endless variety of tones and sounds. The selections on the album include many I am familiar with. Also, the sound quality on the Columbia vinyl is terrific, as good as any vinyl I have.
A 25th Anniversary sequel was released in 2000, which I purchased on CD, since by then, vinyl records and analog recording methods had become obsolete…..or so I thought. The selections are virtually the same, but the performance, style and arrangements of the selections performed by Wendy Carlos are different and less pleasing to me than the original. At first glance, I assumed that Wendy was Walter’s daughter, which we now know is not correct. Walter and Wendy are the same person, albeit with some more than minor alterations. Anyway, I am pleased to have both analog and digital versions of this classic.
