I believe that every effort has been made to make this drama as authentic as possible. This novel is one of my favorites, and seeing it faithfully being re-created is a revelation. When I read the book I also researched the history it portrayed. There are real equivalents for most of the major characters in the story. Toranaga was inspired by the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. John Blackthorne is based on William Adams.
