NOTHING can replace the original "Valley Girl". Nicholas Cage and Deborah Foreman were completely convincing (which given is a rarity for Cage) as a couple of kids who only by chance found each other. The whole "wrong side of the tracks" story was given a different point of view, given the time the movie was made. And it was FUNNY! The new 'musical' version is just Follywood trying to cash in once again on something that worked very well when it came out, and has NOTHING in common with the world today. Sooner or later Google needs to come up with a Zero stars rating, or at least a Half-star, as this 'remake' was AWFUL!
