Gosh people are so tediously predictable. All the negative criticism because it’s a bit different and not wall to wall fighting. God forbid anyone should try something a bit different. It held restraint and decency as valuable traits and didn’t just go in for violence. It’s a brave and interesting film. Why oh why do the masses require constant action or they just slag it off as boring? Action is great but this is a real attempt at something more interesting. I think it’s great.

It was ok. A visual spectacular undoubtedly but For me it massively fell down on connecting me emotionally with the characters. I just didn’t care what happened to any of them. I didn’t get emotionally invested in anyone. David Lynch makes me feel all the characters’ emotions eg Jessica’s pain when her husband dies, Dr Yueh‘s pain at betraying his duke, the tragic death of Duncan. All these things play out in typical Hollywood glitz in the new film but I just didn’t care; whereas the old film, for all its faults, I really got a sense of the trauma the characters went through. I increasingly find Hollywood films are just the byproduct of focus groups, audience Reactions and number crunching. This results in ‘spectacular’ films that should be brilliant but aren’t. They leave me feeling numb. They look good and tick the boxes but there’s no authenticity to them and the subconscious can smell this a mile off. Take Star Wars a new hope - just an epic piece simply because Lucas laboured on it and delivered a dream that he believed in and crafted to be what he wanted to be. Thewthe new Dune 2021 Is a typical film of our age - looks good and ticks all the right boxes but entirely forgettable and lacking in any true grit or character.

Dear Hollywood why can’t you get simple things right like there is NO NOISE IN SPACE! It works to brilliant dramatic effect in the opening scenes of Pitch Dark and the remake of Star Trek but in this film the opening segment is the tediously noisey sound of impacts in open space. Then practically the first line has the horribly stupid radio comment ‘over and out’. This is supposed to be a high tech sci fi scene and it’s got this colossal blunder ( on a radio you either say ‘over’ in which case you’re after a response or ‘out’ meaning conversation over). Come on Hollywood surely someone knows this stuff! I can’t get past the first 5 minutes. What happened to good scifi? Alien and the like. This is just silly mind gum for morons. Not for me soz.
