The movie was not cohesive or thought provoking. You get the sense that things are just randomly happening to a weirdly comical degree. A man spawns from underwater randomly, follows a random cat, and that’s how he meets the main character, a random woman who he decides to follow against his own best interest for the sake of company. In multiple instances, characters start shouting and grabbing the main character out of fear at random and are killed by the invaders. Rather than throwing objects, the main character decides to grab a crowbar and smash cars to attract the invaders away from the side character.
The movie gives a thoughtful watcher the sense that there was very little to no thought behind the plot and cohesion of the story. The main motivation of the terminally-ill main character to get a slice of pizza during an apocalypse is not intriguing.
It’s as if the whole time comically ridiculous situations and events are forced to provoke emotional moments.
I did appreciate the character aspect of the cat. In a world where the humans are distressed and worried, the cool and collected nature of the cat speaks to the power of mental control.
All in all, I gave this movie a solid 2/10.
