Well I read the book as a teenager, and after that I watched David Lynch's film. Both were fantastic, Lynch delivering just what my imagination had given me from the book. So why do I seem to be the only one who isn't a big fan of Villeneuve's take on it? Yes the visuals are stunning, so they should be with all the CGI, but they were pretty good in the first film 37 years ago. But in the latest version many of the actors seem short on charisma, almost miscast. I admit I am a huge fan of the 1984 version, but I still feel this version comes up short, a bit dull, way too slow, and 3 episodes? I hesitate to say this but isn't that stretching out a money making venture? Perhaps it's my age but I've never been a fan of remakes, maybe seeing the first film tars my judgement, but I'm not sold on this. However, thinking of the positives, if it brings the story to a new younger audience, then that's a good thing.
