TL;DR Save your money, watch it on Disney+ when it’s out of theaters. Too much cringeworthy humor
If you found the trailer funny, you’ll probably find the movie hilarious. If, like me, you thought most of the trailer was kind of cringey, the movie is somehow more so. My wife and I figured we’d give it a try because we love Thor and thought Taika Waititi kept the jokes relatively in check in Thor Ragnarok. Unfortunately the first half of this movie is almost in watchable. It’s one bad joke after another with very few of them landing in my opinion.
The second half of the movie picks up a little bit more with more genuine moments between the characters. Thor and Jane have a few serious scenes, although Korg and Valkyrie maintain comedic relief throughout the more serious dialogue.
The bright star in this mediocre comedy is Gorr the God Butcher. Christian Bale’s villain is really excellent. He is totally creepy, and all of his scenes land very well. He’s among my favorite MCU villains.
