I loved Rostov the main character a gentleman well travelled and blessed with the finer things in life in his earlier years. Only to be imprisoned later to the backdrop of the Bolsheviks, long queues for a loaf of bread, and communism. I loved the references to Tolstoy, Chekhov and Tchaikovsky while reading I felt I was in Moscow.
