It is quite disturbing to see things written that can be interpreted so many ways. In American literature we discussed Moby Dick. The instructor saw the whale as evil. Yet Moby was white, minding his/her own business living on its own turf. Ahab on the other hand wore black and had lost his leg in a previous incounter with Moby while trying to kill him/her for revenge. Yet Ahab was potrayed as good by the instructor. Why celibrate mental illness? Ahab had the problem. Not Moby.
In Ending Things, the director could have given better clues for a person to use for a more valid interpretation of the story. Instead of a wet dog, demented father, dying mother, and sticky icecream that's too sweet. The dancing and singing didn't help, but were intertaining. But misdirected the viewer. It was all in the janitor's head. Really?
