Ok, rose colored glasses have come off. The remake updates a lot of things very nicely. The graphics are great, maps are streamlined, and enemies challenging and aggressive. They cut out a lot of pieces from the maps, like the gondola ride in the village before fighting chief for example, or there is no longer the option to fight either 2 gigantes or 2 chainsawyers after the house holdout. They took away shiny spinel and treasure shooting, instead placing things inside little containers that you shoot. Ammo is less forthcoming in the remake. Where I found myself awash with handgun bullets in the original, I'm finding it harder and harder to come by ammunition, or the resources to create it. Where I could focus on action and fighting in the original, I'm now worried constantly about ammo consumption. So far I haven't met a castle mob with a rocket launcher. A lot of the castle sections have been edited out as well.
I really don't know whether or not I love it or hate it. Dead Space remake is better by far.
